Gaming Exemptions proposed by Congress
8th Jun 2007Rebert Wexler, the US Congressman for the State of Florida is expected today to introduce legislation to exempt gambling games including poker from the Internet gambling ban that was passed last year.
Congressman Wexler's aim is to exclude 'skill games' such as bridge, poker, backgammon and chess from the Unlawful Internet Gamblng Enforcement Act.
The UIGEA was opposed by a number of people, but even with the introduction of Congressman Wexlers Bill, there is not yet enough support to overturn UIGEA which had majority support in both the Representatives and the Democrats.
However. meetings are taking place today where the heads of the major financial companies who were banned from processing payments to do with online gambling will testify.
Wexlers Bill is set to be unveiled just one day prior to this hearing taking place at the House of Financial Services Committee to discuss the ban on banks and credit card companies.
One of Wexler's spokesman said of his Bill, "It allows Americans to play poker online as they should have every right to do. You win and lose based on your ability and it is a deserving distinction."
This bill will be supported by groups such as the European Union which houses many online gaming companies who lost large amounts of money afetr they were forced to stop trading in the USA.
