Welsh Gran Gets The Biggest Bingo Win Ever!

29th January, 2008

The new biggest bingo win record was set by the lucky 53-year-old lady from Bargoed, south Wales, when she scooped over £1.1 million in the Castle Club in Merthyr Tydfil on Sunday.

Everyone went mad in the bingo club, as it was announced that the first ever National Bingo Game’s Platinum Jackpot was won by the mother of two.

Christine Bradfield could not believe her luck, as “everything seemed so surreal” when the news were announced. She remained seated for a while, as it was very hard to comprehend that in a matter of moment Christine Bradfield became a millionaire.

National Game’s Chief Executive said this on the night: “What a wonderful night for bingo. We know its the biggest bingo win ever in this country but believe it to be the biggest in the world. It is just the boost we needed in this difficult times for the industry.”

Mike Wiltshire, the general manager of Castle Club was the one calling the numbers when the lady won the money. This is how he described the moment of truth, when the winner and the prize pot were announced: “The place erupted, everyone went wild. It was amazing. And word spread quickly so that most people in Merthyr knew before the end of the evening!”

Both Christine and her husband, Ray, a crane driver, were so shocked when they heard the news. Ray was at home when his wife phoned him and told him about what happened. “We won’t sleep tonight but he has to go to work in the morning. I work three days a week in a garage and luckily I don’t have to be in until Wednesday, but I’ll be there then,” she said. “I won’t be giving up work; I couldn’t be at home or I’d be out shopping all the time.”

Christine loves bingo, she has been playing the game since her teenage years. “I just love the game,” she said. “I have been playing since I was old enough at 18 and I won’t stop now.”

Her son and daughter were also very excited about the news, Christine said she can’t repeat what they said not to sound rude. There are also three grandchildren who will be enjoying the presents which are probably going to be coming for every good deed they do.

Christine joined the Castle club 11 years ago, on the day it was opened. She comes there twice a week religiously.
