It is apparent that bingo chat rooms use a variant of the English language regularly which, until now, has been unnamed. Tombola bingo has dubbed the new ‘language’ as Binglish. However many outsiders to the game cannot decipher the new language and don’t know their ROFL from their WDW’s; introducing the Binglish translator! Tombola bingo wants to make life as easy as possible for their online bingo fans ensuring that their chat room facilities are welcoming rather than daunting so they’ve developed a new translator so newer players don’t feel like a fish out of water.

Tombola’s Binglish translator will convert confusing bingo chat terms which are well known for its mysterious acronyms to a more easily understood English phrase. Tombola even went to the lengths of contacting a language expert at Sunderland University regarding the Binglish Language.

Senior Language and Culture Lecturer Angela Smith said, “These sorts of phrases and abbreviations offer the notion that people are in the same room rather than the reality of being separated by possibly hundreds of miles. The translator enables new-comers to join a community that already exists on-line much quicker than they would otherwise have been able to, and once there, have fun communicating in this very specific sort of language. For users, I’m sure it could almost be as much fun to join the community and use this language as it is to play.”

Angela believes that Binglish is a sub cultural development and gives the online bingo community a sense of group identity. However we think it’s all rubbish and that it’s just a quicker way of typing!

The Tombola Bingo Binglish translator really is a brilliant idea, so go on try it out for yourself and get chatting to your bingo buddies!
