The New Gambling Act Issues
3rd September, 2007
The new Online Gambling Act of 2005 is now fully functioning and making online bingo operators think carefully before promoting their services. The law includes all forms of gambling, such as bingo, arcades, casinos, betting, gambling in pubs and clubs, online gambling, even including the free online bingo, online casino and other sites.
The online gambling laws are already quite tough and regulated closely, and the additions made to the law that should protect children, keep crime rates law and online gaming fair, are now making companies deal with new implications. The new laws are supposed to offer a better oversight in sustaining industry reliability.
The Act, nevertheless has been scrutinized and criticized by the Liberal Democrats and other concerned parties. The government opposition is expressing its concerns about the possible problems that could appear now due to the previous restrictions on TV commercials allowing online gaming, betting, bingo sites and casinos to use TV advertising as part of their promotional campaigns.
Nevertheless, since the law came into place 1st September, there has not been a drastic increase in TV advertising in the industry. There are still sites that announced the plans to use this advantage, but generally it can be said that the price and target audience reach would call for doubts to use TV advertising.
We can only wish the gambling companies all the best of luck with dealing with the issues, as the new Act also means that local authority licensing officers now have more opportunities to inspect the gambling premises.
