Smoking ban takes its toll on the halls

2nd November, 2007

Thirty jobs have been axed as another two bingo halls, this time in Derbyshire, have been forced to close.

The Ritz in Belper and The Regal at Staveley, which both hosted Bingorama, have both been closed after 37 years in operation.

The closures, according to operator Stylus Sports, were caused by the smoking ban and high tax rates. Managing director of the company said that the news of economically unviable bingo halls, and the closures in particular came with "much regret and sadness".

This is a trend only set to continue, as players begin to filter into the online bingo halls.
