Save Our Bingo
28th February, 2008
The game of bingo, believed to originate in 16th century Italy before spreading throughout Europe in different forms, is now a much loved game and popular past time of so many people.
Bingo halls across the UK have been under serious threat of closure due to new laws and practices. Evidence supports the claims made by Mecca Bingo that the double taxation laws placed on the bingo industry are to blame.
Other factors in the closures of bingo halls and loss of funds include the smoking ban, which has decreased the amount of people participating. Also, online bingo which, although has been around a while, has increased rapidly, tempting players to play from the comfort of their own homes rather than going to the local bingo hall.
Mecca Bingo have now set up petitions on government websites, aiming to bring the matter to their attention. Once the petition reaches over 200 signatures the Prime Minister is obliged to read it, and if the petition reaches as many as 21,000 signatures then it will be amongst the most popular petitions currently raised.
Sources at Mecca Bingo have said: “Our aim is to show the Prime Minister how important bingo is to millions of people in the UK, including those who work in the industry”.
For your chance to aid Mecca Bingo and the Bingo Industry sign the petition and help bring the issue to the attention of the Prime Minister before too many more bingo halls are closed.
