Profits burning away in bingo halls
1st November, 2007
Bingo goers are passing up on playing slots which were their usual half time entertainment - instead they are heading outside for a quick puff before going back to the bingo.
Slot machines and arcade style games are the bread and butter of bingo halls, with 30% of their revenue coming from them and with the people swopping slots for smokes this is hitting the hard.
Heavy taxes are also being blamed for their dip in profits. Som,e insiders hope that the slump will even out, but others are concerned that it is not like being hit with the National lottery, the smoking ban would involve a lifestyle change by the punters and that is not likely to happen anytime soon.
