Mecca Bingo partner with Southern Electric for the environment

After making headlines with their recent charity fundraising effort that involved workers jumping out of airplanes, Mecca Bingo’s latest venture has been to push environmentally sound practices among patrons of their land-based bingo halls.
The bingo operator has teamed up with Southern Electric to promote cost-effective and energy saving opportunities, which starts with a light bulb. Everyone who visits the Mecca Bingo Club in York will be given two energy-saving lightbulbs.
“At a time when a lot of people are concerned about the rising costs of heating and lighting their homes, changing to energy-saving bulbs is a great way of saving money,” said Hugh Bayley, York MP.
The light bulbs themselves cost a bit more than the standard bulbs, but they use less energy to power, which means less money spent on the electric bill. Although this is one of the most attractive aspects of the bulbs, they also lower energy consumption, which is good for the environment.
“The environment is a big concern for everyone, so by doing this give-away, we are helping our members take a positive step to reduce their energy consumption without hitting their pocket,” said Tim Stobart, manager of the Mecca club in York.
In addition to the light bulbs, some qualifying members were offered a free loft and wall cavity and insulation. This is another way to save energy and bring costs down because the less your heater or air conditioner has to work, the better.
