Louisiana Bingo Parlours Earn Millions

29th October, 2007

In Hammond, Louisiana, the city’s two video bingo parlours have raked in more than $4.2 million net profit during their first year in operation. Both parlours play a 20% tax to the city each quarter, giving the city of Hammond $848,673 in the past year.

Cypress Palace Bingo and Hammond Bingo Palace, the two reigning parlours, opened the 6th of October, 2006—a year after the city council authorized video bingo within the city limits. Video bingo is very much like video poker, however the video bingo machines are used by sponsoring charities for fundraising purposes and are regulated under class II laws, as opposed to class III laws for poker.

Despite the fact that the ordinance of 2005 authorizing video bingo in Hammond was controversial, the opening of these new bingo parlours have proven to be quite financially helpful to the city.
