Gala's Mountainous Game Of Bingo!

6th November, 2009

A group of 25 Gala Bingo employees has set a world record by playing the highest game of bingo ever, on Mount Everest.

The group trekked 17,500 ft up to Everest base camp and played the rather unusual game of bingo. They whipped out their scorecards and the bingo caller sported a sparkly gold jacket and they started their charitable game.

The group raised over £100,000 for Gala Bingo’s chosen charity Sue Ryder Care.

One member of the team said: "Other trekkers at base camp simply couldn't believe it - I'm sure they thought we had altitude sickness."

The Chief Executive of Sue Ryder Care, Paul Woodward, said of the Gala Coral fundraising efforts: “On behalf of everyone at Sue Ryder Care I want to say a massive thank you and congratulations to the Gala Coral Everest Base Camp Trekkers. This is a truly fantastic endeavour– firstly in completing the trek but also in the tremendous amount of money that has been raised. This money will go a long way in supporting our work in caring for people living with conditions including Cancer, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis and Brain injury”.

The team is rightly so very proud of their achievements by raising so much money. Well done! Gala is raising money throughout the year for the charity, go to their site to see how you can take part for such a worthy cause!
