Gala Bingo Wins CIPR Award!
18th November, 2009
It has been announced that Gala bingo has be awarded with the prestigious Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Gold Pride award for its Mrs. Obama campaign. The campaign kicked off back in January 2009 and impressed the judges so much that they won the corporate responsibility category.
The campaign began just before Barack Obama was elected as President of the USA; Gala found out that Barack’s step mother, Kezia Obama, was a fan of playing bingo. The PR campaign then came straight into force and became hugely successful due to their own media coverage and the huge interest which surrounded President Obama’s inauguration. The campaign raised a lot of money for the charity Sue Ryder Care, raising a huge total of £1million.
Gala Bingo’s PR manager Lesley hall commented on the campaign, “We’re delighted to win the CIPR Pride Gold award as it recognizes the success of this unique campaign. Its timely and quirky nature captured the media’s interest and was a great vehicle to raise awareness nationally of our ongoing commitment to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Care.”
The CIPR judges said of the campaign, “Spotting the news that Kezia Obama, the step mother of President Obama, was a keen bingo fan prompted this audacious fundraising campaign. Gala Bingo capitalized on the intense media interest around the inauguration to promote its commitment to Sue Ryder Care. The judges liked the cheeky and imaginative stunt, which delivered well measured results for galabingo.com and its charity partner.
The campaign introduced a Mrs. Obama bingo room at Gala which created coverage with over 200 news articles which all highlighted Mrs. Obama’s commitment to Sue Ryder care and raised more than £10,000. Gala bingo then matched the sum.
Well done Gala, keep it up! The online bingo site continues to support Sue Ryder Care, click the banner to see what they’re up to at the moment to help support the cause.
