Family Argues Over Million Pound Bingo Win
17th October, 2007
69-year-old Jean McCullagh of Uddingston, Lanarkshire was all set to scoop up her £1 million prize money after winning the Mecca Bingo Jackpot on Friday. Yet a dispute reportedly occured over the prize money when her sister and two sisters-in-law claimed all four had agreed to split the prize money.
At Edinburgh's Court of Session on Monday, Lord Brodie granted an interim interdict, as well as requiring Mecca Bingo to freeze payment pending a second hearing. Brodie also made the decision to freeze Ms. McCullagh's bank account, which was set to receive the winnings yesterday.
Both of Jean McCullagh's sisters-in-law, Jessie and Rose McCullagh, have hired lawyers in attempts to claim their alleged rightful share of the jackpot.
"We had organized to split the money", Rose McCullagn explained last night.
All four women, aunts of the former Big Brother contestant Federico Martone, were playing at the Forge Bingo Hall when Jean McCullagh scored the "lucky" jackpot.
