Electronic Bingo Verification Suggested

19th March, 2008

The idea of electronic bingo verification is being considered to ease the usual lengthy and frustrating process of verifying numbers by phone to each of the contestants.

Until now during the bingo contests, players would phone into the studio and the volunteer worker would read out the numbers to each of the callers. This is a very lengthy process and creates a lot of time waste, as the volunteer would have to sometimes sit and wait for the next caller to get in touch; when other times, callers would have to be waiting in a queue, which in terms creates a lot of frustration between them.

If the Senate Bill 296 gets enforced as a law, the new way, electronic way of verifying bingo winners will be permitted. Dorothy Hinnant, president of the Suncoast Bingo Council, explained that this new way will simply mean that instead of verifying the numbers via the phone, they will be flashed into the monitor or screen.

The bill proposal was put forward by the state Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey. It looks like the law is very likely to be enforced now, as according to Fesano’s chief legislative assistant, the Florida Senate has already approved the bill, making the expected approval from Florida House the last and final step in the process.

"What it saves is the time," stated Hinnant.

Mr. Paglione, who is a director of past president of the nonprofit bingo council had this to say about the new bill proposed: "We've been waiting for this bill to be passed for a long time. We wanted the visual verification."
