Bingo win worth £187,000

4th June, 2008

A 43-year-old woman, who does not want her name released, won £187,000 at the Gala Bingo on Wheatley Hall Road, while her husband was busy watching the big football match.

The woman, from Cusworth, decided to play a little bingo to pass the time while her son and husband were occupied and ended up walking away with a huge win.

“My nine-year-old son was at cub camp and my husband went to a pub with friends to watch Doncaster Rovers in the playoff, so I decided I might as well go to Gala,” said the woman.

“I went to the pub to break the news to him and he was already happy that Doncaster beat Leeds,” she said. “He thought I was joking at first. We both woke at 2:30 a.m. the next morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. I just can’t take it in and have to keep pinching myself. It’s a nice feeling.”

The woman actually joined the bingo club, not for the chance to play but to use the loo. After that she decided she would start playing and the rest is history.

“I joined four years ago so I could use the loo there when I was passing, because Matalan closed theirs. Then I decided I like playing bingo. I usually play on Tuesday and occasionally on a Thursday.”
