Bingo Winner Comes Through on Promise
23rd May, 2008
Ann Davis hit the jackpot at the Gala Bingo Club in Washington and walked away with more than £61,000. Instead of rushing off and spending the entire sum on a new car or toward a mortgage, Davison is going to hold herself to a promise and give half of it away to her friends.
“We always said we would share whatever any of us won,” Davis said. “I won £10,000 last year at the Gala and shared it with them. “
Davis is keeping her promise and giving the money to friends Nancy and Peter who weren’t even at the bingo club when she hit the big jackpot.
“It was Peter’s 60th birthday and they were at a family barbecue so didn’t come to bingo,” Davis said. “Later that evening we gatecrashed the barbecue and told them the good news. Needless to say they were really excited and as happy as we were. It will be nice to have some money in the bank to help boost our pension.”
Although it is quite common for players to share jackpot winnings with other players, but it is quite generous to give it away when the people weren’t even there.
“A lot of people share their winnings when they come along together,” said Steve Grabha, general manager at the Washington Gala Club. “But to still share their win when their friends weren’t even there shows what nice people they are. Every day people win £500 to £1,000, but £61,000 really is a life-changing amount and it’s nice to see it go to people who regularly come along to the club and enjoy themselves.”
