Bingo Players Fight Back
1st April, 2008
Five bingo players have showed a real heroism in the bingo club in Oslo, when they got an armed robber on the floor and kept him there until the police arrived.
Operations leader Even Jørstad of the Oslo Police District said this: "A man had threatened staff with a pistol, but while we were on our way to the scene, we got word that folks in the bingo parlour had overmanned him."
When police walked through the door they found the robber face down on the floor with four or five bingo players holding him tight.
"They had hung on to him for around 13 or 14 minutes," stated Even Jørstad.
The girl who works in the Stovner club, Monica Belstad stated that the robber was threatening her colleague with a firearm. "When she started yelling, he was tackled by customers," Monica added.
Belstad also stated that the robber was aware of the place the money was kept. She also added that the whole episode was “extremely uncomfortable”.
After the robber found himself kissing the carpet he started saying that he has breathing problems, so the police called the ambulance.
"This wasn't nice at all," said Belstad. She also hinted that the brave bingo players who saved the cash of the club that day are going to receive some sort of recognition for stopping the robbery.
