Betts to get the tax burden off bingo halls
26th February, 2008
Clive Betts, a Sheffield MP met Alistair Darling, the Chancellor of the Exchequer yesterday to force action against current taxation of bingo halls.
According to the MP for Attercliffe, existing tax regime together with the Gambling Act has caused bingo halls to struggle a great deal and in many cases shut down altogether.
This is what he had to say: "In the last three years, 14 per cent of clubs have closed and the latest research suggests more than 100 other clubs are now at risk."
Since the tax developments took place there has been a lot of negative feedback towards it. Nevertheless, the tax regime remained.
