Aussie Government Crack Down on Unsuitable Public Sites

29th February, 2008

The Australian Government are cracking down on websites that they feel are ‘unsuitable for public consumption’. This will affect many Online bingo sites and online bingo halls across the UK and the world.

Many UK sites are made readily available for Australian customers and it is possible that they have been targeted by the Australian’s list of banned sites. The ban has already taken a number of companies in the industry by surprise.

The ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority), according to recent reports, have blacklisted approximately 800 web pages to Aussie ISPs as well to some content filtering companies. The ACMA have responded to companies by saying that these sites are illegal gambling site identified by the Government as inappropriate and have clarified that it relates to the abundance of complaints they have received regarding the sites since October 07.

Luckily for the UK’s industry, Australians only account for a small percentage of the UK online bingo customer base as many choose to use Australian based operators.
