A young man charged with bingo robbery
2nd January, 2008
After the Holiday Inn and Kawartha Bingo got robbed on December 30, the official suspect was announced as a 21-year old George Michel.
The robbery started just after 4 am, when the police was alerted about the break into the Holiday Inn on George Street. The suspect assumingly got to the front counter with a knife in his hand commanding the staff to hand over the money.
Officers lost the suspect at the time the crime was conducted, but it seemed the money wasn’t enough for the robber as he moved on to clearing another place at 7 pm, Kawartha Club Bingo on Clonsilla Avenue. The police received alarm as well as a number of 911 calls from the bingo hall where the robbery was happening.
The report states that the robber came into the venue with his face covered as a disguise and a sharp object that he threatened to use on the clerk if he doesn’t give him money. The clerk removed himself from the spot and the robber got all the money from the tills he needed. As the man tried to leave the hall, the patron tried to get the money back from the suspect and managed to get some cash at the end.
The suspect escaped at first, but was found later on in the area of Eagle Crescent and Glenforest Boulevard.
Most of the money from the bingo hall was found and given back to the owners. Not a single individual was hurt during the robberies conducted by the man.
Jarrod George Shook, 21, with no permanent address, is now charged with the robbery.
