A Gran Beginners Luck Pays off Big Time!
16th January, 2008
A 60-year grandma of five, Jessy Maynfield, went to her Gala Bingo club in Castleford last night and played bingo for the first time in her life. Her beginners luck paid off very well, as she walked away a wealthy old lady with £40,000 cheque in her hand and the house prize of £120 because she completed a full house in 43 numbers. This was the lowest call in in the whole of the UK, which has 470 clubs in total.
It was National Bingo Game that brought her the big win and here is what she said on the lucky day: "It was such a shock when they told me how much I had won. I just can't believe it."
The lady admitted that despite never playing the game for real money, she did enjoy occasional free online bingo games that are becoming increasingly popular between bingo fans in England and some other European countries lately.
It has to be said that land-based bingo halls have been under threat for some time now due to the double taxation and smoking ban introduced last year. This has been a major reason for more patrons turning to play online bingo instead. Nevertheless, Gala Coral Group and Rank, the two biggest bingo companies in the UK are trying to file for easing the tax laws to keep the industry alive.
