20,000 bingo jobs at risk
31st December, 2007
Experts say that the bingo industry could be dead within 12 months is the downward attendance figures keep falling.
In the last 8 months since the smoking ban came into effect, attendance at the once packed bingo halls across the UK has slumped.
Regular bingo goers are staying at home to avoid the ban on smoking, which stops them combining their favourite activities.
More people are choosing to play online bingo instead.
One third of the countries 548 bingo halls are under threat of closure and many have already been forced to close due to sinking profits.
It is estimated that almost three quarters of a million people have quit the once greatly loved past time and it will be a sad day in the UK if Bingo is eradicated in 2008.
